Placebo effect screwing up pain med drug trials

When we have discussions here at JunkScience on drug or treatment effectiveness, the placebo effect is always lurking in the background.

Lookee here, drug trials encountering an increasingly serious placebo effect confounder.

So when this or that food or herbal supplement, or this or that diet are espoused as beneficial, when acupuncture and other techniques that have no scientific basis that can be ascertained, are claimed to be efficacious, do you mind if I withhold my judgment.

I have a placebo effect on my patients all the time, because i exhibit confidence and optimism. That’s important in therapy but also a factor in the success of charlatan practice or magical therapies.
