Star Trek tricks can’t work in some cases? Say it ain’t so

Most of the examples have to do with our current knowledge of space/time/speed of light limits.

So this writer says Warp speed is not possible, transporters just couldn’t deconstruct and reconstruct living things without killing them, and sub space communications faster than speed of light ain’t gonna happen.

That will sure make for slow motion space wars–I don’t think that’s fun to watch at all. Imagine hundreds, thousands of years just to get the combatants to the battlefield.

I will agree, but aren’t they just so special, all those believing socialist/communists with an adventurous aggressive and energetic spirit? Not like most of the socialists one sees, who are looking of peace, tranquility and dependence.

  1. Star Strek science is more credible than modern, lock-step consensus “science” of Astronomy, Astrophysics, Cosmology, Geology, Nuclear, Particle, Planetary, Solar and
    Theoretical physics
, but I seriously doubt matter can be disassociated in one place and re-associated in another.

In fact, every atom in the solar system was made in the Sun, which exploded five billion years (5 Ga) ago and birthed the solar system.

But the powerful, whether politicians or popes, have never liked to hear the truth: Politicians and Popes are as powerless as the rest of us over the forces that control and sustain lives.

The popes objected when Copernicus reported the giant fountain of energy at the gravitational core of the solar system in 1543. Four hundred years later, in 1945, when the atomic bombs revealed the source of energy in the Sun, frightened world leaders agreed to unite nations (UN) and the national academies of sciences (NAS) in order to prohibit public knowledge of that source of energy – NEUTRON REPULSION !

Imagine how surprised invading aliens will be when they discover they aren’t fighting Neanderthals.

  3. Imagine humankind having developed on and now and in the future living on just one rather nondescript planet in a rather nondescript solar system in a rather ordinary galaxy. According to our current scientific knowledge, where we are is where we will be until we become extinct with no real option for establishing habitation elsewhere, not even on our moon or on Mars. Colonize another habitable planet in another solar system? Fuhgedabouttit. Ain’t gonna happen.

Was I really supposed to believe in warp speed and transporters ?
I thought this was just about science fiction.

  5. I believe the show stopper for far space travel is space debris. Anything larger that a pin-point you hit traveling at say 10% of the speed of light would be like an atomic bomb. Space is relatively empty, but traveling billions of miles from here to there you going to run into something and even a tiny something will destroy your ship.
