Homeschooling, urban style–not that surprising if you care and you can

Here’s a story about how to avoid the cesspool that is urban public school education.

Note this teacher was concerned her kids were not reading at grade level. When I was in grade school my parents were concerned if I wasn’t reading at least 2 grades above grade level.

And I was and then some. Any top student in upper grade school was expected to be at high school levels in the 50s.

  1. Several years ago our local TV was reporting on the National Spelling and Geography Bees. They rattled off the winners and most of them were home schooled. Shocking when you realize how small a percentage home schools were in the nation. A few minutes later the anchor was covering legislative proposals and chortled: “Well! Home schooling may be popular, BUT are they learning anything???”
