Shock therapy for Melencholia?

I can recall when shock therapy was used for the severely organically depressed–sort of like a reset. Asserted to be beneficial, predated anti depressants.

However, the relapse rates were high.

Of course the placebo effect is in play and controlled studies are hard to do for evaluating benefit.

Pills, counseling, electricity–psych therapy still looking.
